Artist Open House

Meet Hassan Qureshi & Kellie Gedert at Wild Goose Creative

Hassan Qureshi is a Columbus based artist with experience in painting, drawing and Arabic calligraphy. He believes all artists are storytellers, and his form of storytelling is through painting. Although his subject matter varies, he is currently exploring Arabic calligraphy composition within the structures of silhouettes.

As an artist, Hassan believes in the transformative power of art to challenge and broaden one's perspective. Through his work, he strives to create an immersive experience that blends the narrative of the natural world with the profound influence of the written word. Each piece invites viewers to engage deeply, encouraging them to discover layers of meaning and connection within the artwork.

Kellie is a native Ohio artist and educator who gets her inspiration from nature which provides us with amazing botanical varieties with their own beauty and inspirational shapes and textures. Combining nature, process and chance, the results are beautiful. Many ideas come from regular nature hikes that provide so much clarity for her well-being.

CREATIVE WRITERS WORKSHOP

CREATING UNFORGETTABLE CHARACTERS

What makes for unforgettable characters in fiction writing? What happens when we allow our characters to be as complicated and messy as the people we encounter in everyday life? In this generative writing workshop we’ll take a look at characters who make questionable choices, struggle through relationships and wrestle with life’s big questions and events. We’ll explore a range of literary techniques for creating backstory from memories and flashbacks to alternative methods like dialogue, action and POV shifts.  There will be plenty of generative exercises that will allow us to go deeper into where our characters are coming from and where they are going and allow it to inform the arcs of our works in progress.

January Wild Gallery: Process

Process, featuring collections from artists Tiffany Lawson and Mia Isobel Smith, explores distinct methodologies established through repetitive rituals, the collection of material, and the accumulation of marks.

Lawson’s series is a discipline of originality, intending to harness the power of imagination and creation. These Blue Sheets; fifty (50) in total, were created under a self-imposed rule - each original composition was started and finished within one (1) day, using an accumulation of curated media. Composed on Rembrandt Mystic Blue toned paper, the curated medias, along with colored pencil, acrylics and ink, explore freedom in Black visions and world-building.

Smith’s collection, Lessons in Care, offers tangible accounts of private experience, positioning material as an extension of the body. Vulnerable moments of physical maintenance and sentimental longing are realized and recorded through the persistent memory of clay and the accumulation of thousands of stitches. Smith’s tactical expressions serve as an intimate testament to the beauty found in the most ordinary aspects of everyday life.
